Reflections in water is a hand-felted and embroidered collection of work that navigates through a long period of morning, Livia has been fascinated by how folklore and myths are created and developed as coping mechanisms to hardship.
Water and its varied symbolisms has been a driving force in Livia’s work for several years. In this recent collection of felted work, she explores the use of water as a portal to those she has lost. Water is a recurring theme with the passing of life in many myths, religions and folklore. These artwork took inspiration from the celtic myth of the otherworld, a land of deities and the dead. It’s said to be a supernatural realm of everlasting youth, beauty and health. This parallel world can be entered through a river, a lake or the sea.
This series, inspired by these folklore beliefs, explores the symbolism of water as a portal between the land of the living and the dead.
