AN EMBROIDERER’S STORY
An Embroiderers Story, is an exhibition showcasing the exquisite artistic craftsmanship of artists and designers working with embroidery. Linked by their shared respect for this craft’s long-standing heritage, the Bound Collective come together in this exhibition to showcase the contemporary versatility of this traditional craft
This exhibition highlights the often unknown makers behind the captivating embroidery world.
BOUND follows each of the artist’s journey into this unusual career, showcasing a collection of embroidered pieces from each of their practices. Exploring themes of heritage, storytelling, grief and love, we are reminded of the power of textiles to form connections and meanings. This exhibition binds makers and viewers together through shared emotions and experiences. Embroidered art is often caught in the polemical maelstrom between craft and art. As a result, textiles are often excluded from the fine art category, creating debate amongst artists and critics alike.
This exhibition marked the 1st showcase of Papienik’s tapestry, The Love you left behind. Alongside this monumental piece, she exhibited previous artworks including, Diary of a Subconcious (2022), Slipping Away (2023), Through the water we speak, Blue Moon and Underwater Path (2024)
The exhibition marked the launch of BOUND, A gallery and collective founded by Livia Papiernik and Rebecca Offredi to raise the value and relevance of hand embroidery in the arts.
The exhibition showcased 15 artist, all working full time within the embroidery industry across art, fashion and interiors. This exhibition marked a pivotal moment for all artists to demonstrate their craftmanhip and personal practice.
